URGENT: According to Save the Children (2021), “Almost 400,000 children under five are suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition and at heightened risk of death” if they do not receive lifesaving aid this year.
For many, this past year has not been an easy one due to the rise of COVID-19, a deadly virus that wreaks hardship, havoc, and heartbreak wherever it goes. Yemen in particular has taken an especially devastating hit as a result of the pandemic. As internal conflict and violent military actions run rampant across the country, Yemen is inevitably facing the worst humanitarian crisis in human history.
With the pandemic taking what little hope the Yemeni people had left, families are forced to survive through unimaginable hardships. Furthermore, its everlasting economic and societal impacts have left over 80% of the population to require some form of humanitarian aid, and at least 10 million civilians who are on the brink of suffering from famine.
What are the people of Yemen supposed to do when it feels like the light at the end of the tunnel is slowly disappearing?

The biggest hit has been taken by the young children of Yemen. Children who have unmistakably lost everything. Can you imagine how it feels to be a child, roaming the somber Yemeni streets in search of a lost family, lost friends, and lost hope? Can you imagine how it feels to be a child and see the people closest to you lose the fight against famine and disease?
Or can you imagine as a parent, the feeling of having to choose between feeding your child or paying for medical expenses?
After over 5 years of fighting, millions of Yemeni children are in urgent need of nutritious, potentially lifesaving food. And now, multiple crises, economic collapse, and a ruthless pandemic are sweeping across the nation -leaving over 12 MILLION children in harm’s way.
This is where HRD comes in.
Since the pandemic started in 2020, we have been working tirelessly to give rise to newfound hope and faith. By showing our tenacity, we have distributed essentials such as food, water, medical/hygienic supplies, and shelter to thousands upon thousands of families.
Through our 4 Mercy Bakery locations across Yemen, we have been able to safely deliver and provide over 14,400 loaves of warm, fresh bread to thousands of families every day. That’s ~446,400 pieces of bread every month. And a total of 5,256,000 pieces of bread fed to Yemeni families in a year!
One of our most important projects, Al-Shawkany Orphanage, helped us provide neglected Yemeni children with daily meals, education, sports and games, clean clothes, and a roof over their head. For the neglected youth of Yemen, we have acquired and renovated a state-of-the-art orphanage for over 400 orphans.
Thanks to the generous support from over 500 special people that helped us raise over $60,000 on Giving Tuesday alone, we were able to complete the construction of the orphanage in December 2020.
